The new 2020 Audi S3 is here and looking more sedate than what we predicted. Here are 5 facts about the upcoming model.

Sportback and Saloon options available

Like the previous generation car, it’s available as both a Sportback and Saloon. Prices start at £38k, but no doubt the options list will have you hovering above £40k and beyond. Remember, new cars above £40k are subject to a separate Premium Car Tax here in the UK!

Grown up styling

It’s very grown up. The 2020 Audi S3 is the choice for those not wanting the in-your-face styling that other hot hatches, like the Mercedes-AMG A35 (check out our video review here) and Honda Civic Type R FK8 have. It’s a subtle design that will have people wondering whether it’s even an S car. The bits that differentiate it are the quad exhausts, a new front grille, 18-inch wheels and aluminium mirror covers.

EA888 engine

The engine is the tried and tested EA888 engine that powers pretty much every fast four-cylinder VAG product. In this trim it produces 306bhp and 295lb ft and is mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. 0-62mph takes 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph (limited). Those wanting more power will have to wait for the upcoming 400bhp Audi RS3.

Interior goals

The interior is once again leading the pack. The new car gets two 10-inch screens, including the famous Virtual Cockpit. Audi says it now has the latest chip powering the infotainment system, which has 10 times the processing power. It’s weird to be talking about processing power in a car. New, though, is screen mirroring, which should allow you to display your smartphone’s screen on the in-car screen. We’re guessing that’s when you’re parked…

2020 Audi S3 Trim levels

A Vorpsrung trim level will be offered further down the line that will add the likes of Matrix LED lights and adaptive dampers.
