This month’s top headunit is the Kenwood DDX4021BT
Over the last few years the engineers at Kenwood have been tinkering away, refining their best products and making them more affordable. Their mission has been to bring you same famous Kenwood quality at a price that’s a bit more realistic and you know what? It looks like they’re winning.
In-car multimedia is usually at the top end of the spectrum but this sexy new double-DIN is not only packed full of features but it comes in at under the 450-quid mark. We’ve even seen a few special dealer offers over Christmas setting them as low as 300 smackers, now that’s a proper Bobby Dazzler!
THE LOOK
There’s no mistaking the signature Kenwood build quality and good looks with this particular piece of technological loveliness. Headed up buy a 6.1-inch, high resolution WVGA touch screen, it gives a clear, sharp display that rivals most multimedia units at two or three times the price. You just can’t argue with the value for money.
SPECIAL FEATURES
All the usual multimedia features like DVD playback and USB connectivity are there, and – it’s nothing short of miraculous, I know – you can even play Compact Discs or listen to FM radio if that’s your bag. One of the coolest features though has to be the built-in Bluetooth module which allows AD2P music streaming from any compatible phone or mp3 device. Of course this also comes with hands-free calling to keep you on the right side of the law and can even receive and display text messages on the go too. Top tech!
SYSTEM INTEGRATION
The Kenwood technical team have even been thinking of all you lucky buggers running a modern motor with integrated steering wheel controls. Instead of loosing all those shiny buttons like with most other headunits, they’ve developed a full range of wiring harnesses to keep all that power right at the tip of your fingers. There’s also a large number of vehicle-specific facia adaptors meaning slotting your spanky new double-DIN in place should be a doddle!
APP MODE
You want clever? Well, how’s this for mindblowing? The DDX4021BT comes with Kenwood’s brand new ‘App Control Mode’ meaning iPhone users can take advantage of compatible apps like YouTube and iTunes right there on the big screen. It’s like having an internet connection in your Motor.
