Renault is marking the end of the Megane RS model with one final blow-out, say hello to the limited-run Ultime.
It’s the end of the road for the Renault Megane RS. But Renault couldn’t see off the brilliant hot hatch without one last hoorah, the Megane RS Ultime.
Limited to just 1,976 examples (the same year Renault Sport founded), the Renault Megane RS Ultime starts off life as an RS Trophy. As a result, the Alpine-derived four-pot gets 300bhp, with 310lb ft of torque. Sadly, no manual gearbox here, instead it’s the usual ‘EDC’ auto gearbox. Between those front driven wheels is a Torsen mechanical diff helping to put the power down.
The chassis comes in ‘Cup’ spec, meaning a lower stance, hydraulic bump stops and the nimble four-wheel steering setup. Wrapped around those new 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels are Bridgestone semi-slicks; the same you get on the all-singing-all-dancing Trophy R.
How fast is the Renault Megane RS Ultime?
Officially, 0-62mph is over in 5.7 seconds. No word on top speed yet, but expect it to be around 155mph.
Elsewhere, the front end is wider by 60mm, while the rear increases by 45mm. There are also the usual array of aesthetics and aero, including air vents, a central exhaust, rear diffuser and RS Vision headlights.
Inside, it’s business as usual for an RS Megane. Recaro bucket seats up front, with Alcantara upholstery all around. Spot the RS embroidery dotted about, and of course the nameplate depicting the production number of your model. Unlike with the Trophy R, there are more creature comforts on board. A 9.3in nav screen controls everything, you also get Bose speakers, adaptive druise control, 360-degree sensors and more.
The final Megane RS is set to be unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon later this week.
