We’ve had well over a decade of fun at Crail Raceway and that was mostly down to the man who made it all happen; Willie Robertson. Sadly, Willie died last year but Crail still goes on, allowing petrolheads to keep doing what Willie loved seeing them do – blasting down the 1/4mile track and burning rubber all day!
As a tribute, the first big event of 2014 was rightfully dedicated to Willie’s memory and a testament to him was the massive turnout, it was the best in years!
The day began on an emotional note as Willie’s awesome Datsun 240z race car was driven down the 1/4mile to kick off the action. There was also a ‘minute of noise’ for Willie as engines revved and the trio of drifters – Steven Donnelly, David Waterworth and Malx ‘Fozzy’ Foskett made massive smoke.
From start to finish, it was non-stop action on the drag strip and drifting oval as well as endless show cars and club stands lining the runways. To top it all off the weather behaved and the atmosphere was fantastic.
It was a show that would have put a smile on Willie’s face and a fitting tribute to the Crail daddy! Don’t miss the full show report coming soon in the magazine….
