If you’re a detailing aficionado, you’ll love this. Here are the winners of the Auto Finesse Select show & shine competition at Japfest 2023.
Detailing gurus Auto Finesse have become mainstays at the UK’s top modified car shows over the past few years, and Japfest is no different. As has become tradition, the Auto Finesse academy – and its fleet of high-end tuner cars – took over Silverstone’s scrutineering bay last weekend. However, while there was a lot of immaculate rides for enthusiasts to drool over in the bay, plenty else was going on just across the other side of the Japfest trade alley.
We’re of course referencing the Auto Finesse Select competition, where tens of hopeful detailers display their freshly presented cars in the hope of outshining the rest. This year’s contenders were just as varied and just as eye-catching as we’ve come to expect, so picking a winner and two runners-up was certainly no easy task.
Our trusty judges managed it in the end though, so here are the top dogs from the 2023 Japfest show and shine competition:
The Winner
The winner of the 2023 Auto Finesse Select was Derrick (aka ‘Dez’) and his beautifully prepared blobeye Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Inside, outside, and under the hood – it’s clear to see that plenty of hard work has gone into making this car what it is, so the guys at Auto Finesse were all too happy to present Dez with a bespoke trophy/plaque and fresh new detailing kit. Runner Up – GR Supra
If you’re a regular at modified car shows, it’s quite likely you’ll recognize Alex and his stunning yellow Supra. Easily one of the most tastefully built GRs in the country, this motor is the reigning TRAX Select show & shine winner from 2022. Now having claimed the runner-up spot this year at Japfest’s equivalent show and shine competition, Alex and his car are building up quite the reputation. Runner Up – Mk1 MX-5
The final runner-up plaque and free detailing kit went the way of one of the many Mazda MX-5s present at Japfest 2023. However, while many are battling rust or simply hard wear and tear these days, this one appears to be in exceptionally fine health. You can follow Kyle and his car on Instagram @that_bagged_miata.
