My mum used to tell me it’s what’s on the inside that counts…
She might have been giving me relationship advice at the time. But I think that philosophy can be applied to modifying too. Yes, the aesthetics of a car are very important, but so are the innards. After all, the cockpit is the place you spend most of your time – unless you’re Midge, then it’s under the bonnet. With this in mind, and the fact I had a delivery from the guys at Kent Custom Dipping sitting on my desk, it was time to get stuck in and get all the hydrodipped trim back in the car.
The transformation of the parts is simply superb, dipping technician and all round top bloke Paul Woolway had done a fantastic job. The finish and depth of the carbon hydro-dip is amongst the best I’ve ever seen. So I was extra cautious when refitting the plastics back into the E91’s cockpit. I didn’t want to scratch the lush carbon-look weave, and even with the extra care it only took me 15 minutes to get it all back together. And wow, what a transformation!
It’s amazing what a massive difference these small pieces of trim make. I’d highly recommend this to other BMW owners. It’s a cracking way of freshening up your interior and is far cheaper than buying genuine carbon parts and far more classy than 3D wrapping. The only thing I’m disappointed in is myself: I wish I’d done it sooner!
With the trim back in place, I then ‘fitted’ a new set of mats from Diamond Car Mats. These are custom fitted mats that cover the majority of the carpet. You’ve probably seen them advertised on Facebook – that’s where I saw them anyway. And I’ve got to say, I’m pretty impressed. Okay, they’re not cheap but then they are good quality, look awesome, and give that custom-trimmed mat look for a fraction of the price.
All I need to do now is fit my retrimmed M Sport carbon wheel, get some UV protection (see next month) and get a sweet double DIN in the dash and the interior will be as sweet as a honey-roasted nut.
That’s not all that’s happened this month either. I’ve given the postman a good work out as my BC Coilovers and Remus Exhaust have turned up – good times. I might even try and get them fitted next month too.
