By the time you read this we will have actually run the gauntlet with RedBull. In fact, you’ve probably already seen the 2013 Red Bull Soapbox Race on Dave and you’ll know if we’re still alive… or not. In the meantime, though, we’ve been putting together our mini-top fuel dragster and it’s day three of the build…
The mission for today was to weld on a massive spoiler (which Modest Matt did in no time at all) and get the body built. Now we’d love to have the budget for a proper fibreglass dragster shell, not to mention the time to engineer it, but for our purposes a couple of trips to Wickes and a shed load of wood would do nicely.
We set about building a frame and screwing on thin hardboard sheeting to keep the whole lot nice and light. Now, none of us are actually trained carpenters but, we managed to pull it all together after a mammoth 14-hours of sawing, screwing and generally swearing at each other. Happy days. It’s not too bad a job either, we even managed to fill and fiberglass any gaps, proper posh, like.
Anyway, we’re pretty close to the end product now, except for a lick of paint, and to see if the steering works, and the brakes and, hang on… we’re actually nowhere near finished. Bugger!
