Forge Action Day 2012 at Castle Combe
With textbook ‘show’ weather throughout the day, and a capacity crowd filling the venue, the second Forge Action Day at Castle Combe Circuit was one of the most eclectic collections of motors on the show calendar.
As last year’s inaugural event was such a huge success, the team at Forge Motorsport were hoping that the additional work and extra elements that they had added to improve this year’s event would please the crowds.
Much time had been spent contacting the many owners clubs, and building on last year’s ethos that ‘Everybody and everything is welcome’, meaning showgoers were treated to a simply sublime mix of race machinery, retro cars and award-winning show rides.
The show was rammed with a diversity of cars. The Capri Club rubbed shoulders with endless rows of Subarus, hardcore drift and Time Attack cars lapped alongside tweaked Minis while flawlessly-finished VAG rides and ’32 Fords sat next to BTCC cars.
In a celebration of everything good about the internal combustion engine, the Forge Action Day offered a mouth-watering selection of cars on and off the track covering some nine decades of innovation and style.
Naturally, Forge’s own stand housed some of the most perfectly-executed show cars at the event. Catering for every taste, finely detailed air-ride VWs, Fords, Renaults and Audis sat alongside all manner of more track-focussed and race machines. Centre stage was the superbly detailed 1932 Fiat Topolino ‘Altered’ of Bennett Racing – packing over 3,000 bhp!
Out on the track, Forge had also arranged for many of its sponsored drivers and teams to provide charity passenger rides for the day. With stars and cars like Bo Neilsen’s sorted Time Attack Astra and Gary Searle’s fire-breathing Evo on hand, thrills were never more than a wheel twirl away.
Even BTCC ace Rob Austin came along to help, hustling his Forge-decalled Audi around the challenging circuit in a superb display of driving.
It was an awesome day at Castle Combe and we already can’t wait for next year!
