One of the most celebrated names of the classic Mini world will be a star guest at this year’s Mini World Live, which takes place at Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northants, on July 10, 2016.
As the head of the former BMC Competitions Department, Stuart Turner led the works Mini teams to a multitude of international rally victories including three Monte Carlo Rally wins, in 1964, 1965 and 1967.
Mini fans will hear him reminisce about these fantastic achievements, the cars, the stories and the characters behind them on the morning of the show.
MiniWorld Live event manager, Adrian Vaughan, said: “Like the Mini itself, Stuart Turner is a legend of British Motor Sport, having headed up the competitions departments at both BMC and Ford. He’s a hugely engaging character, without whom the legendary Monte Carlo Rally winning Minis may never have existed. It’s a real privilege to get him to the show to meet some of the Mini’s biggest fans.”
Following the show’s debut in 2015, which brought thousands of Mini enthusiasts to the Northants venue, the organisers are promising even more action and more of a festival feel for the show, which is backed by three major Mini-related magazine titles – MiniWorld, Mini Magazine and Modern MINI.
One particularly tasty feature will be the great British Mini ‘bake-off’, with clubs and exhibitors invited to bring along their own Mini-themed cakes, with £150 on offer to the one judged to be the best.
In addition, there’ll be a big Mini-only autojumble, where rare and used spares, automobilia and other Mini-themed artefacts can be bought and sold, along with a substantial retail village.
MiniWorld magazine’s technical writer, AC Dodd, in conjunction with Andy Davies of ML Motorsport, will also be running an engine diagnostic bay, where owners can get their Minis checked out to advise on improvements and performance upgrades.
The show will feature further attractions for fans of both classic and modern Minis, including a concours competition, show and shine, club stands and on-track action – visitors can take their own Minis onto the Rockingham circuit for just £20, or go drag racing, with three runs for £10, payable on the day.
Visitors will also be able to enter a competition to win a Mini in a competition sponsored by specialist insurers Carole Nash. The classic is currently being worked on by the magazines’ teams and will be on display at the Show. Modified Mini owners will also be able to enter a ‘Best Wheels’ competition, in association with Wheel Whores.
Live music and refreshments will also form a core part of the event, with camping available the evening before to ensure it benefits from a vibrant, festival feel. Those who are camping will also be able to witness Mini World Live’s own Rod Stewart tribute act, Pete McCall, who will be performing live on stage that evening.
Full details of the show, along with the opportunity to buy advance early bird tickets saving at least £4 on show entry*, are available at MiniWorld Live.
